Supergirl Venice This Weekend!
Wednesday, 02 September 2009 00:00

On September 6, the top female action sports athletes in snowboarding and inline skating will join their skateboarding counterparts in Venice Beach, CA, for the final stop in the 2009 Supergirl Jam event series. The Supergirl Jam is the action sports industry’s only large-scale, all-girls competition and lifestyle festival designed to promote female empowerment, strength, independence and leadership. The top athletes in skateboarding, snowboarding and inline will be competing for their share of the $36,000 total prize purse and the Supergirl Jam title in their respective sports.

The Supergirl Jam street skateboarding competition will also be held on September 6 in Venice Beach. Pro skateboard street competitors include 2008 X-Games Champion Elissa Steamer (Ft. Myers, FL), Amy Caron (Huntington Beach, Calif.), Vanessa Torres (Orange County, Calif.), Lyn-z Adams Hawkins (Cardiff-by-the-sea, Calif.), Lacey Baker (Covina, Calif.), and Supergirl Pro-Am Jam gold medalist Leticia Bufoni (Sao Paulo, Brazil). Abby Zsarnay (Santa Paula, Calif.) will also compete in the event, having placed as the top amateur in the Supergirl Pro-Am Jam held on August 19 at Woodward West.

Lauren Perkins (Huntington Beach, Calif.) who took home the Supergirl Jam Skateboard Street title in last year’s event is sidelined this year, recovering from recent knee surgery, but she will be on-hand to support her fellow competitors. The competition will be tight with Bufoni, who took top prize in this year’s Supergirl Pro-Am Jam, trying to make it two wins in a row to sweep the Supergirl Jam skateboard events this year.

The Supergirl Jam series consisted of three stops this year – the Association of Surfing Professionals Grade-4 Supergirl Pro Junior contest that took place on August 15 & 16 in Oceanside, Calif.; the Supergirl Pro-Am Jam Skateboard Street competition that took place at Woodward West in Tehachapi, Calif., on August 19; and the Supergirl Jam finale at Venice Beach coming up on September 6 beginning at 11 a.m.

All of the day’s competitive action, and event highlights from the Supergirl Pro Junior and Supergirl Pro-Am Jam will be streamed LIVE on GO211.com and TheWB.com, the official online destination for the 2009 Supergirl Jam events and competitions.

Programming featuring all three stops in the Supergirl Jam event series will be televised this fall on networks to include CBS Sports, FUEL TV and Fox Sports Net.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
